A 2011 study by MoneyRates.com ranked the top 10 states for retirement, and Tennessee came in as No. 9. In the study, economics determined 47 percent of a state’s final score, climate was 33 percent, life expectancy was 12 percent and crime accounted for 8 percent.
Tennessee was noted as a great place to retire due to economic factors and climate. It had the eighth-best score for economic factors, due to having the nation’s lowest cost of living. The pleasant Tennessee climate earned it an above-average regional climate score.
